Doig and MacLean on SCORE 16
Following in the footsteps of colleagues Peter Stuart and Stewart Luke, David Doig and Simon MacLean were selected to take part in the Scottish Refereeing Centre of Excellence (SCORE) for season 2016/17.

The programme was launched last year to provide a pathway for up-and-coming match officials to reach the highest level of the game, with the Scottish FA and Heriot-Watt University working in partnership to provide education through modules and intensive training.

The programme is set to continue for another year, with students based at the National Performance Centre for Sport in Edinburgh.

The candidates successful in their application to SCORE went through a rigorous process, including tests on the laws of the game and personal fitness, as well as an interview.

In 2015, nine referees were accepted on to the programme, and now ten assistant referees will be trained to complement last year’s participants.

John Fleming (Head of Referee Operations) says “I am delighted to be able to confirm the names of those taking part in the SCORE programme in 2016/17.

“The inaugural year of the programme was a success and these ten individuals now have the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of the nine who took part the programme in 2015/16.

“All the participants have demonstrated an aptitude for refereeing and I believe that they have potential to operate at the very highest level, both domestically and internationally.

“It’s an exciting time for candidates and I would like to congratulate them and wish them the very best with the programme.”
